Latest Article: Hammel et al (2009) Frontiers in Zoology

Our latest article was published in September 2009 in Frontiers in Zoology. We combined microtomography, SEM and DIC microscopy to characterize bud development. Interestingly, the buds in T. wilhelma display a distinct pattern of morphological stages, during whichall relevant body structures are sequentially developed.

Hammel JU, Herzen J, Beckmann F, Nickel M (2009) Sponge budding is a spatiotemporal morphological patterning process: Insights from synchrotron radiation-based x-ray microtomography into the asexual reproduction of Tethya wilhelma. Frontiers in Zoology 6: 19

Haeckel 1872 monograph on calcispongia scanned and online

Haeckel (1872) KalkschwämmeIn collaboration with the Thuringian University and State Library book scanning service in Jena, one of our students scanned all three volumes of Haeckels monograph on calcisponges. It is likely that Ernst Haeckel himself donated this particular three volumes to our library. All volumes are now available through the Digital Library Thuringia (dbt - Digitale Bibliothek Thüringen).

Please feel free to download PDF copies from the dbt server:
